I am also not an exception and also have the same question and query. I asked the Lord many times in the past and especially at crossroads of my life.
Many years ago when I was at a crossroad of my career, having left a bitter business partnership and then started a small business , but the new business was not doing well initially. Of course, I sought the Lord and asked Him ," Should I go and work for someone and which one? Or should I continue this business ?"
And I sought and waited upon the Lord for a while. In my mind , I wanted the Lord to show me the path ahead of me and to show the type of path, is it good? , is a plain sailing one or is it a difficult one? In my simple thinking , I thought if the path that the Lord showed me is a good one , then I would walk in it.
Isn't that how we always think , we are so afraid of making mistakes ?
Isn't this the type of mind-set that we have? Every time when we are at a crossroad, we want to know that whether we are going to take a gold trodden path ahead of us and we want an assurance that the path that we set out to take will be peaceful and plain sailing. Right? We wanted to know that the path ahead for the future would be rosy before we stepped out and walked towards that goal.
Isn't this what you visualize, because I definitely visualize it this way!!
I didn't want to make any mistakes, I didn't want to walk a difficult road, I didn't want to have troubles, heartaches and worries , anxieties and any complications. I didn't want to waste any time, for sure!
You know what the Lord revealed to me, a valuable lesson for the rest of my life. The Lord, instead of showing which path I should take, told me a very important principle, which even though was revealed to me 10 years ago, is still relevant to all our daily lives and especially when we want to make decisions at crossroads in our lives.
The Lord said, "Step out and walk , and walk in faith and a Path will open unto you ". The Lord further revealed to me that just like the Israelites when they crossed the Red Sea, the Red Sea was not opened all the way to the bank on the other side.
The Lord said ," The Red Sea only opens up as they walk out in faith . As they walk out and in faith, the Red Sea begins to open , just a few steps ahead of them. The Red Sea was not opened all the way to the other bank, but only as they walked out in faith, step by step , the path to the other bank will begin to open unto them!
Martin Luther King Jr says:
"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step."
It is in only in our walking out in faith and walking out step by step , that the path of God will open ahead of us , and will be revealed to us, line upon line, percept upon percept. Start walking out in faith step by step, and a path will open unto you! The path of God will definitely open unto you! That is how God leads us , line upon line, percept upon percept. And only if we step out in FAITH.
So, my friends here at CB and all Christians , wherever you are now in your life, if you are at a cross road regarding any decisions that you have to take, be it career, business or relationships or even marriage, step out in faith and walk ,step by step ,do not fear , but trust the leading of our God and the path of God will open unto you.
I quote from Isaiah 43: 1-2 as an assurance from God;
Fear not, for I have redeemed you,
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you ;
And when you pass through the rivers,
They will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
You will not be burned;
The flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel , your Saviour.
STEP OUT IN FAITH AND WALK!
AMEN
